THE BEST TIME TO CHANGE IS ... NOW LAMP BAN 2023: EU COMPATIBLE LED SOLUTIONS FROM LEDVANCE
To combat climate change and hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment mercury-containing and inefficient lamps may no longer be sold in the EU in stages during 2023. THE LAMP BAN applies especially to fluorescent lamps. As a professional lighting partner and supplier of a full lighting selection, LEDVANCE offers you convincing options that allow you to switch to the energy-efficient LED technology of the future and find solutions with individual services.
SITUATION: LAMP BAN 2023
The EU Commission has set strict environmental design requirements for light sources In the EU eco-design regulation 2019/2020 . In the spring of 2022, the EU also checked EU ROHS Directive 2011/65/EU and further limited the exemptions for mercury-containing light sources specified in Annex III. As a result of these legal measures, the following lamps may no longer be placed on the market anywhere in the EU:
- T5 ring fluorescent lamps from February 25, 2023
- Compact fluorescent lamps with plug sockets (CFLni) from 25 February 2023
- T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes from August 25, 2023
- Halogen lamps (G4, GY6.35, G9) from September 1, 2023
THE CHALLENGE: SWITCHING TO LED LIGHTS
Energy-efficient and versatile LED solutions are suitable climate-friendly and future-proof alternatives to obsolete fluorescent lamps. However, due to different local conditions, upgrading current lighting systems from fluorescent tubes to LED technology is often challenging. The following questions must be answered for each LED upgrade project:
- What ballasts are used: a choke or an electronic ballast?
- Are compatible LED light tubes available for existing ballasts?
- Are all installed ballasts intact?
- Can the light control system be upgraded to LED technology?
- Does a DALI-controlled installation need to be upgraded to LED technology?
