New energy labels for lighting fixtures and lamps
The energy labels have been updated. Now, energy consumption per 1000 hours and energy efficiency on a scale A–G are indicated in the energy labels of lamps. At Airam, in lamps with a fixed LED light source, the energy class information can always be found in the lamp's installation instructions. You can be sure that the performance of Airam lamps and lights has not been compromised. Only the energy scale has changed with the ecodesign directive.
Since 2021, all electrical appliances, lamps and lighting have had the EU's new energy labels. There are many reasons for the renewal of the energy label, such as the ambiguity of the old energy labels. The reform also challenges us manufacturers to develop even better and more energy efficient products. The biggest change in the energy labeling concerns the classification, where we return to the AG scale, i.e. the A+, A++ and A+++ classes are removed. A QR code is also added to the brand, which leads to the European Commission's product database EPREL, where consumers can get more information about the product.
A new energy brand in a nutshell
The Ecodesign Directive, which will enter into force at the beginning of September 2021, increases the obligations of suppliers in terms of product performance, presentation of product information and consideration of sustainable development requirements. Re-scaling the energy label has become necessary with the development of light efficiency of light sources. The renewed energy label has challenged manufacturers to develop even more energy-efficient and responsible devices.
Responsibility is an integral part of Airam's operational strategy, management, decision-making and daily work, so Airam has eagerly responded to this challenge by investing in the renewal of lighting packaging, installation instructions and lighting labeling. The new packaging will end up in stores and in the hands of consumers during the fall, but the website can already see the change for almost all lighting products.
Energy labeling on lamp packages
In the energy labeling of the lamps, the energy consumption per 1000 hours and the energy efficiency on the scale A–G are indicated. A completely new element in energy labels is the QR code, which allows smartphone users to easily access additional information about the device model. The QR code takes you to the EU's EPREL database, which contains additional non-commercial information to facilitate the purchase decision.
The Ecodesign setting can be seen in the lighting packages and installation instructions
In the case of lamps, and especially from the consumer's point of view, the Ecodesign regulation means a clearer distinction between replaceable and fixed light source lamps, and an understanding of this essential difference. If the lamp has a replaceable light source, the energy class label can be found on the lamp package.
In Airam's lamps with a fixed LED light source, the energy class information can be found in the installation instructions, which are always included in the package and can be downloaded from the airam.fi website from the lamp's page. The text clearly states in three languages (Finnish, Swedish, English) which energy class light source the lamp contains. In addition, the lamp packages always contain information on whether the components (light source and power source) are replaceable or replaceable and, if so, who can do the light source replacement (consumer or electrical professional).
In addition to the energy class, when choosing a lamp, you should pay attention to the lamp's installability, technical characteristics such as the amount of light, dimmability, color temperature and lifespan. All this information is presented in Airam lamps in a clear and easy-to-understand manner in the product packaging, installation instructions and/or product technical information on the airam.fi website.
You can be sure that the performance of Airam lamps and lights has not been compromised. Only the energy scale has changed as a result of the directive.
